Jack Benny reminded us that in his day, quickies were quicker. Johnny Carson dropped in for a surprise visit. He didn't know he was going to be there... surprise! Goldie did her best Elizabeth Taylor impression. Jill St. John, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and Peter Lawford sneak a peek at eavesdropping, Englebert Humperdink showed up to explain his name and why we coundn't say it on the air -- Show #54 (December 15, 1969) : This marked the first time Greer Garson has ever heard of Beautiful Downtown Burbank, but she joined the Laugh-In girls all painted and pumped up as Mae West to introduce the news. Lorne Greene from Bonanza met up with Alan Sues from Burbank. JoAnne Worley sang "Proud To Be Loud," and Fanny Farkle introduced Greer Garson to her Farklings (Artie and Smartie Farkle and Simon and Garfunkle), while Laugh-In announcer Gary Owens announced that Gary Owens is the Laugh-In announcer -- Disc 2. Episode #64 (March 2, 1970) : This show featured Danny Kaye going toe-to-toe with Arte Johnson as they improvised some new outrageous characters. Teresa Graves boogalooed wearing nothing more than a bikini, a smile, and some graffiti, then Danny Kaye appeared as the father of the blushing bride-to-be, Ruth Buzzi as Gladys Ormphby. Once More the lovely JoAnne Worley burst into the Cocktail Party just to be sure that none of the neighbors were able to sleep, while Laugh-In announcer Gary Owens made no sense at all and Dick Martin continued his tireless pursuit of passion -- Episode #65 (March 9, 1970) : The Laugh-In cast was visited by Milton Berle, Buddy Hackett, Mickey Rooney, and Edgar Bergen (who appeared with a new dummy, played by Dick Martin). In spite of overwhelming odds, Jill St. John added some class and glamour. Henry Gibson took a close look at naked people, then Henry drove Milton Berle a little crazy (it was a short drive). General Bull Right explained the Pentagon cost overruns, while Goldie explained the time zones. Goldie's explanation made more sense than General Bull Right's -- Disc 3. Episode #87 (February 8, 1971) : Dinah Shore made her most unusual appearance ever as a stripper in the Burbank S&M parlor. Lily as Edith Ann talks about her idea of heaven. The Flying Fickle Finger of Fate flew to Florida, and Dick Martin and Ruth Buzzi, as the Swizzlers, chugalug a bucket of brew. Lots of quickies, the Cocktail Party and the Joke Wall. Mayhem strikes when legendary author Truman Capote visits with Dan Rowan and Dick Martin to explain Dick Martin to Dick Martin... and fails -- Episode #16 (September 23, 1968) : The Flying Fickle Finger of Fate feted the prison system. The Laugh-In girls look at the wonderful, wacky, weird, wasted world we live in. Arte Johnson as Rosmenka introduced a great star from his homeland, played by Eve Arden, who hadn't been this funny since Our Miss Brooks. John Wayne's son "dropped" by to deliver a message from his father, and then, showing our boundless affection for the Duke, we dropped his son through a trap door. Herb Alpert put down his trumpet to blow into the wrong end of a trombone. | |
